I watched several youtube videos to learn how to make them and it consists of black, gray or brown strips of fabric, ranging from 1″ to 3″ wide, sewn to two sides of the block. I really like that look and so did my daughter. The free pdf pattern, layout, and assembly instructions make it so easy, even for beginners!
